It was founded in February 2009  by Akash Bhalerao,  Viraj Shelatkar and Parvez Patel, students of The Bishop's School, Camp, Pune and has been gaining momentum and support ever since. In it's initial stages it was heavily supported by The Bishop's School, Pune which served as a launch pad for the organization, especially in terms of the amount of student support it received.

EcoFriends Community is a financially self-sustaining organization a social enterprise business model. We generate our revenue by selling products that spread awareness about environmental issues like , house plants, terrariums and also some eco-friendly items. All the revenue generated goes back to different environmental awareness and restoration projects mentioned above. We adapted this model in 2013 and it has been spearheaded by the Business Development Director who trains and empowers our members to help them develop sales, storytelling and entrepreneurial and business skills.
